Digital Swine Flu and Creativity

Saturday May 2, 2009

I wrote a story a couple of days ago. It was about an old man finding a piece of graffiti on a wall, and the disturbing feelings he took away from that discovery. It was a young man who looking at that wall and finding an opportunity to create beauty. It was about the struggle between the young and the old, the generation gap that makes people think so differently about the same things. It was about creativity, and it was about walls.

I’m not sure I can write it again. It wasn’t very good when I wrote it the first time, just a bunch of really purple prose trying to fill in the gaps between “These are the events” and “This is what they mean.” I didn’t get to finish it; my computer died of a nasty virus (digital swine flu…). It was written entirely on Tumblr, as many of my story/vignette/things have been of late, and I hadn’t saved a draft. When the computer died, so did the story, I think. I might just let it rest in peace, rather than try and force it back into living.

I’m trying to learn the basics of graphic design right now. I’m pretty bad at anything involving design; I’m not as visual a person as many of the good folk on Tumblr. I love pictures, and I’m inspired by them, but creating them isn’t really my forte. I’m trying to change that.
